The small print, written to be read.
Three documents in one page: what happens to your data, what you are agreeing to by using the tool, and the limits of what its answers mean. They are short because there is genuinely not much to say.
Privacy policy
Your balances stay in your browser.
The short version
The simulator runs entirely on your device. Your balances, rates, limits, income and expenses are never sent anywhere, and there is no copy of them for us to leak, sell or lose. What does leave your browser is only what you deliberately hand over: an email address if you make an account, a payment if you subscribe, a name and address if you order a shirt, and a question if you ask the assistant one.
This policy covers both chunkchunk.ca, the simulator, and chunkchunk.shop, the store. They are run by the same operator and use the same providers, so one document covers both rather than two that could drift apart.
What stays on your device
The simulator saves your work in your browser's own local storage, the same place a site remembers a dark mode preference. None of it is sent anywhere on its own. There is exactly one way any of it can leave, a Pro button you have to press, and it is described under What leaves your browser below:
chunk-chunk:config:v8: your plan. Credit line balances, limits and rates, your debt list, income, living expenses, chunk size and chosen payoff strategy.chunk-chunk:budget:v1: the Daily budget window, if you use it. Your categories and the transactions you have logged. On Pro this travels with your plan when you press Send, encrypted the same way and under the same passphrase.chunk-chunk:calc-history:v1: the calculator's history, your last 50 sums and their answers, so they are still there next time. It stays in this browser: it is not part of a backup and it is never sent with your plan.chunk-chunk:restore-point:v1: one copy of your previous plan, written only when you import a file, restore a backup or pull your plan from your account, so the Undo button has something to put back.cc.themeandcc.pro: your day or night choice, and whether your subscription is active, so the pages do not have to ask the server on every load.cc.shop.cart: your basket on the store. It holds only a product, a colour, a size and a quantity. No price and no personal detail.
Clearing your browsing data for the site deletes all of these permanently, and the Erase everything button in the app does the same thing deliberately. Back-up and export files are written straight to your device and are never uploaded. Nobody, including us, can recover a plan you have cleared.
What leaves your browser, and where it goes
Four companies process data on our behalf. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
- Supabase stores your account and, if you
subscribe, your payment history. An account is an email address, a
password, your name if you give one, and, if you choose to answer
it, where you heard about Chunk Chunk. That answer is only ever
counted, to learn where it is worth posting. The payment history is a debt's name, the date you
recorded a payment and the amount, so that history can follow you to
a second device. That much syncs on its own once you are signed in
and on Pro.
Pro also has a button that stores one copy of your whole plan, and your Daily budget with it, so another of your devices can pick it up. It is never automatic and nothing is stored until you press Send. That copy is encrypted in your browser, with AES-GCM under a key derived from a passphrase you choose, before any of it is sent. The passphrase is never transmitted, never stored by us and never recoverable by us. What Supabase holds is ciphertext: we cannot read your balances, rates, limits, income, expenses or anything you have logged as spending, and neither can anyone who obtains the row. Getting the copy back on another device needs the same passphrase, and if you lose it the copy is lost with it. Deleting your account deletes the copy.
If you switch on payment reminders (Pro), Supabase also stores, for each browser you switch them on in, that browser's push address and the two keys it gives us, and the reminders due over the next four months: when to send each one and its words, which name the debt and its minimum payment, for example "Visa is due in 3 days. $210.00 due." No balance, rate, limit or income is included. When a reminder is due, its words go to the push service your browser uses (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft), encrypted so that only your browser can read them. Switching reminders off or logging out removes that browser, and the reminders are rebuilt from your plan each time you open the app. - Anthropic answers the questions you type into the assistant on the landing page. It receives your question and the rest of that one conversation, and nothing else: not your name, not your email address, not your IP address, and none of your plan. The widget does not read the simulator's storage at all, and every build checks that it has not started to. Anthropic's commercial terms state that what is sent through their API is not used to train their models.
- Stripe handles payment. Card details are entered on Stripe's own hosted page and never touch our servers. We receive only a reference to the payment and, for an order, the delivery address you gave them.
- Printful prints and posts merchandise. To fulfil an order they receive the recipient's name and delivery address, and nothing else about you.
An order record keeps your email address, delivery name and address, the order total and the references above, because we need it to answer questions about an order that has already shipped.
What is still not collected
- Analytics, telemetry, session recording or heatmaps.
- Advertising identifiers, tracking pixels or third-party scripts. The pages load no external scripts: the one library used is served from our own domain. The single exception is a how-to video, and only once you press play on it, as described below.
- Any connection to a bank, card issuer or credit bureau. Chunk Chunk never asks for banking credentials and could not use them if you offered.
- Your phone number, date of birth, or any financial figure beyond the payment amounts described above.
Nothing is sold, rented or shared for advertising, ever. The providers named above act on our instructions and for no other purpose.
Cookies
The site sets no cookies. Your session, your plan and your basket are all kept in local storage instead, which is not transmitted with requests the way a cookie is. YouTube may set its own once you play a how-to video; see below.
How-to videos
The how-to videos are hosted on YouTube, a Google service, and shown through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). The page shows our own picture of each video until you press play, so nothing is requested from YouTube or Google just by visiting it.
Pressing play loads YouTube's player into the page. From that point Google receives what any website you visit receives, such as your IP address and browser details, and it may store cookies or similar data on your device under Google's privacy policy. The player never receives anything from the simulator: it cannot read your plan, your balances or your account.
Web hosting
The pages are static files served by a commercial web host. Like every web server it processes the ordinary information a browser sends in order to return a page: your IP address, your browser and operating system, the page requested and the time. It may retain that in its own access logs. Those logs cannot contain anything you typed into the simulator, because it is never sent.
How long it is kept
Account and payment history records last until you delete your account, at which point they are removed with it. You can delete your account yourself, in the app: open Account and choose Delete account. It takes effect immediately and cannot be undone. Order records are kept for seven years, because tax law requires records of a sale to be retained; they carry no link to an account, so deleting one leaves them in place. A payment reminder is deleted once it is sent, and a browser's push address when you switch reminders off, log out, or the push service tells us that browser has gone.
Questions asked of the assistant are kept so we can see what people want to know. They carry no identifier of any kind: no account, no IP address, no session, and nothing linking one question to another or to the record that rate limits it. Any run of four digits or more is blanked out before the question is stored, in case somebody types a balance into it. The rate limiting record itself is a one way hash of an IP address and a date rather than the address, and it is deleted within a few days.
Your rights
Two privacy statutes apply: British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act, which covers private sector organisations in the province, and the federal PIPEDA. Both give you the right to see the personal information held about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to withdraw consent to its use.
- Access. Your plan is in your own browser and the app shows all of it on screen. For anything held on the server, ask and we will send you a copy.
- Correction. Edit any field in the app. For an account or an order, ask.
- Deletion. Delete your account yourself in the app, under Account, which removes everything held on the server for it. Clear site data for the copy in this browser, or use Reset in the app, which names what it erases.
- Withdrawal. Stop using the simulator and it stops. Cancel a subscription and the sync stops with it.
Children
Chunk Chunk is a debt planning tool intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes to this policy
If what we collect changes, this page is updated to say so and the date at the top changes with it. A policy rewritten quietly after the fact is worth nothing.
Contact
Chunk Chunk is operated from British Columbia, Canada. Questions about this policy, a request to see or delete what we hold, or anything else on this page, go to support@chunkchunk.ca.
Terms of use
What you are agreeing to.
By using Chunk Chunk you accept these terms. If you do not, the remedy is simple: close the page. Nothing is stored on your device until you enter a plan.
In these terms, "the operator" means the sole proprietorship trading as Chunk Chunk in British Columbia, Canada, and "you" means the person using the tool.
What Chunk Chunk is
It is a calculator. You supply the figures; it models what happens to them month by month under the Velocity Method and shows its arithmetic. It is not a bank, lender, broker, dealer, credit counsellor or financial advisor. It is not registered or licensed in any of those capacities, and it never touches, holds, moves or has visibility of your money.
Licence
You may use Chunk Chunk for your own personal, non-commercial financial planning, free of charge. You may not resell it, rebrand it, present its output as professional advice, or use it to provide paid financial services to others. The software, the name, the design and the Winnie mark remain the property of the operator.
Your account
An account belongs to one household: you, and the people you live with. Any of you may use it, on as many of your own devices as you like. That is what Pro is for: the dates and amounts you record as paid follow the account between a phone, a tablet and a computer, and on Pro you can also send one encrypted copy of the plan itself, and the Daily budget with it, so another device can pick it up. Sharing your password beyond your household, so that other people can use the account, is a different thing and it is not permitted.
Be clear about what sharing an account means, because there are no separate profiles inside one and no permissions. Anybody signed in sees the whole plan, the whole payment history and the billing controls, and can change or erase any of it. Sending a plan replaces the copy on the account, and getting one replaces the plan on that device, so if two of you are working on it at once the last one to press a button is the one whose version survives. Recording a payment is different: those merge, so two devices can each record one without losing the other.
Keep your password inside your household. You are responsible for what happens through your account. The account panel in the app carries a Sign out on other devices control, which signs every other device out and leaves you signed in on the one you are holding: use it for a phone you no longer have, and change your password afterwards if you think somebody outside your household knew it.
Your inputs, and accuracy
Every result depends entirely on the figures you enter. A rate typed one digit wrong produces an answer that is wrong by years. Lenders differ in how they calculate interest, apply payments, charge fees, expire promotional rates and post transactions, and no calculator can know your specific agreements. Check the projection against your real statements before you act on it, and treat any disagreement as the statement being right.
No warranty
Chunk Chunk is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability. It may contain errors. It may be changed or withdrawn at any time.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Chunk Chunk or from any decision you make on the basis of its output. That includes, without limitation, interest paid, fees incurred, credit consequences, lost opportunity, and indirect or consequential loss of any kind. You use it at your own risk, and the financial decisions remain yours.
Paying for it
The simulator is free to use and always has been. Pro is a paid subscription billed monthly or yearly through Stripe, and merchandise is sold through the store at the price shown, in Canadian dollars. What each one includes is set out on the home page. What you are charged, when it renews, how to cancel and when money comes back are all under billing and refunds below, which forms part of these terms.
Taxes
Prices are shown before tax. Where sales tax applies to your purchase it is calculated and added at checkout, and the total including it is shown to you before you confirm anything. Any other tax arising from your own circumstances is yours to deal with.
Suspension, and ending an account
You can stop using Chunk Chunk whenever you like. Reset inside the app erases everything it has put on your device, and asking us to delete your account removes it along with the payment records synced under it.
We may suspend or close an account being used to break these terms, to defraud us, or to abuse the service or the people running it. If we close a paid account for any reason other than something you did wrong, the unused part of what you paid is refunded. Closing an account does not touch the plan in your own browser, which was never ours to take.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in it. Any dispute goes to the courts of British Columbia.
General
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that part is read as narrowly as the law allows. Not enforcing something straight away does not give it up. These terms, the privacy policy and the billing and refunds section together are the whole agreement between us about Chunk Chunk. You may not transfer your rights under them. We may transfer ours if the business changes hands, and your rights travel with it.
Changes
These terms may be updated. The date at the top of this page records when. Continuing to use Chunk Chunk after an update means you accept the revised terms.
Billing and refunds
Cancelling, and getting your money back.
The short version
Cancel Pro whenever you like and it keeps running to the end of the period you have already paid for. Monthly payments are not refunded. If a yearly payment catches you by surprise, say so within 14 days and you get all of it back. Shirts are printed one at a time after you order them, so they cannot come back for a change of mind, but anything faulty, damaged or wrongly printed is replaced free. The ebook and the coloring book are refunded in full within 14 days, no questions.
What Pro actually includes is listed in the pricing section of the home page. This section is only about the money: what you are charged, when, and how to make it stop.
What Pro costs
Pro is $10 per month or $96 per year, in Canadian dollars. Tax is added at checkout where it applies, so the total on the payment page can be higher than the figure advertised. That total is the amount you are charged, and it is shown to you before you confirm. Payment is handled by Stripe, which emails a receipt for every charge.
It renews by itself
A Pro subscription renews automatically. A monthly plan is charged again on the same day each month, and a yearly plan on the same date each year, at the price then in force, until you cancel it. There is no fixed term and no cancellation fee, and nothing is ever charged without a subscription being active.
How to cancel
Open the app, choose Account, then Manage or cancel subscription. That opens Stripe's own billing page, where cancelling is one more tap. There is nothing to argue with and no retention script: we do not even ask you why. The same page is where you can change the card on the account or download a receipt for any charge.
If you would rather not, or you cannot get into the account, email support@chunkchunk.ca from the address the account is under and ask. It is cancelled the same day we read it, and we reply to confirm.
Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not cut you off: Pro keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, and only then goes back to the free simulator.
Refunds
- Monthly payments are not refunded. Cancel and you keep Pro for the rest of the month you paid for.
- A yearly payment is refunded in full within 14 days of the charge, as long as Pro has not been used since it. That covers a renewal as much as a first purchase. A yearly plan that renewed while you were not looking is exactly the case this is for, and you do not have to explain yourself.
- After 14 days a yearly payment is not refunded, and the subscription runs to the end of the year you paid for.
- If something is broken, ask anyway. If Pro did not work and we could not fix it, we would rather refund you than keep money for something that did not do its job.
Refunds go back to the card or account the payment came from. Stripe releases them immediately and most banks post them within five to ten business days, which is the bank's timing and not ours.
The ebook
Chunk It, the ebook, is $14.99 in Canadian dollars, paid once, with nothing that renews. Tax is worked out at checkout where it applies, and Stripe emails a receipt. You download the PDF straight after paying, and the page you land on keeps working for a year so you can download it again. If it is not for you, email support@chunkchunk.shop within 14 days of buying it and you get all of it back, no questions. Pro yearly includes a free copy, downloaded from Account in the app.
The coloring book
Chunk or Treat, the Halloween coloring book, is $4.99 in Canadian dollars, paid once, with nothing that renews. It is sold on its own and is not part of Pro on any plan. Tax is worked out at checkout where it applies, and Stripe emails a receipt. You download the PDF straight after paying, and the page you land on keeps working for a year so you can download it again. Print it as often as you like for your own use. If it is not for you, email support@chunkchunk.shop within 14 days of buying it and you get all of it back, no questions.
If the price changes
We may change what Pro costs. If a change affects a subscription you already hold, you are told before it takes effect, in time to cancel before the renewal it would apply to. A price change is never applied retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
If a payment fails
Stripe retries a failed payment a few times over about two weeks. You can put a new card on the account yourself at any point in that window, from Account then Manage or cancel subscription. If it never succeeds the subscription ends and the account returns to free. Nothing is deleted. Your plan is in your browser where it always was, your recorded payments stay on the device that recorded them, and the only thing that stops is syncing between devices. Start Pro again later and the sync picks up where it left off.
Chargebacks
If a charge looks wrong, email us first. It is faster than a bank dispute and it will be sorted, refunded where the policy above says so and explained where it does not. Raising a chargeback without asking costs us the amount plus a fee that is not refunded to us either way, and we may close the account rather than carry the risk again.
Merchandise
Every shirt is printed for you after you order it. Nothing sits in a box waiting, which is why the rules below are not the rules of an ordinary clothing shop.
- No returns for a change of mind, and none for the wrong size. A made to order shirt cannot go back on a shelf, because there is no shelf. Check the size guide on the product page before you order, and ask us if you are between sizes.
- You can cancel before it goes to print. Orders are sent to the printer shortly after payment, so email us as soon as you know. If it has not started printing it is cancelled and refunded in full. Once it is printing it cannot be stopped.
- Faulty, damaged or wrong is replaced or refunded. If the print is flawed, the shirt arrives damaged, or it is not what you ordered, tell us within 30 days of delivery and include a photograph. You choose a replacement or your money back, and you do not post the item back to us.
- Lost in the post. If tracking stops or nothing arrives, tell us within 30 days of the expected delivery date and we will chase it or send another.
- An address typed wrong. If a parcel goes to an address you gave us and is lost as a result, we will reprint and reship it, but the second one has to be paid for. Check the address on the payment page.
Shipping is free and is included in the price of the shirt. The store ships within Canada only.
How to reach us about any of this
For an order, email support@chunkchunk.shop and quote the order number from your confirmation email. For a subscription or anything about the app, email support@chunkchunk.ca from the address the account is under. Both reach the same person. We answer in plain language and usually within a day.
Disclaimer
What these numbers are, and what they are not.
The statement that ships with the app
This is not financial advice
Nothing produced by Chunk Chunk is financial, investment, tax, credit or legal advice, and using it creates no advisory relationship of any kind. It does not know your income security, your credit score, your lender's terms, your dependants or your tolerance for risk, and it does not account for any of them. Before restructuring debt, speak to a licensed financial advisor, an accountant, or a non-profit credit counselling service.
That includes the assistant on the landing page. It answers questions about what Chunk Chunk does, what it costs and how it works. It will not tell you what to do about your own debt, it is instructed to refuse if you ask, and it has no way of seeing your figures even if it wanted to.
The Velocity Method cannot create a surplus
This is the single most important line on the page. The Velocity Method accelerates a surplus you already have by keeping your balance low on a lower-rate line. It cannot manufacture one. If your income does not exceed your living costs plus your minimum payments, no amount of chunking will clear the debt, and the honest answer the app gives is "Never", which it says plainly rather than flattering you.
It can also lose money. When the credit line you chunk with costs more than the debt you are chunking against, the strategy is worse than simply paying the surplus straight at the balance. Chunk Chunk ships worked examples in both directions specifically so this is visible rather than assumed.
Projections are estimates
The simulation is a model, and it makes stated simplifications:
- Credit line interest uses the average of the opening and closing balance for the month. Your lender may compound daily.
- Card minimums are a percentage of the balance with a floor. Real minimum formulas vary by issuer and by product.
- Promotional rates expire forward only, so nothing is back-charged. Some cards, particularly deferred-interest products, do back-charge.
- Rates are held constant. Variable rates move.
- Transaction timing, statement and posting dates, grace periods, annual fees, over-limit fees, late fees and interest capitalisation are not modelled.
Results are rounded projections, not a payment schedule, not a quote, and not a commitment from any lender.
Borrowing to repay borrowing carries risk
The Velocity Method works by drawing on a credit line. That is borrowing, with real consequences: a variable rate can rise, a lender can reduce or freeze your limit without notice, a missed payment can damage your credit, and moving unsecured debt onto a secured line puts the asset behind it at risk. An HLOC is secured against your home. Treat any plan that leans on one accordingly.
No guarantee of results
Reaching zero in the projection does not mean you will reach zero. Jobs end, rates move, expenses arrive, and plans meet real life. Chunk Chunk shows you the arithmetic on the assumptions you gave it. What happens next is not something any calculator can promise.
